What is a Scratch Map?
The Scratch Map was conceived in 2009, created by Jim Cox, founder of gift design house Luckies of London. The initial idea behind this unique concept was to design a travel gift that could allow you to visually record your travels on a map, interactively. As well as allowing you to keep track of all your adventures we wanted the map to give you useful and interesting information on the world. After many revisions, redesigns, prototypes, and endless tweaks the Original Scratch Map was born.
When the Scratch Map was launched it slowly but surely grew, mainly through word of mouth into a global success, winning awards and being featured in countless travel blogs, travel videos and television.
The Original Scratch off Map still remains faithful to the original design today however, over the years the production quality has been enhanced with today featuring thick laminated paper with the signature top foil layer that’s easily scratched off to reveal a highly detailed and colourful map of the world.
This interactive map features countless travel facts, towns, cities, oceans and even terrain detail. Crafted by expert cartographers the Scratch Map range has grown in popularity and size too. Over the years, Luckies has created new editions to suit the demands of many loyal followers, and now boasts the largest scratch off map collection in the world, we’re proud of that.
The Scratch Map range now features travel editions, the Deluxe edition, the XL extra large scratch map of the world and even the Gourmet Scratch Map, one for the foodies. There’s a Scratch Map for everyone. In 2019 the Scratch Map X Edition was launched to celebrate 10 years of the Scratch Map. The Scratch Map is still going as strong as ever, in 2020 Luckies collaborated with renowned artist and screen printer Dave Buonaguidi, to create a map with the boldest statement to date, ‘Adventure Is Always A Good Idea’.
Today there are an abundance of different Scratch Maps made however don’t be fooled, they’re by no means the same. There’s a reason the Scratch Map has consistently grown and that’s down to quality, we’re proud to say that since 2009 there’s only one real Scratch Map, unrivalled in quality and unparalleled with design, you can buy yours here.
